She was lost.

It was foggy and very dark. The wind whipped her cape around her body, caught her hair and tossed it behind her like a banner.

Where was she?

One by one, the stones appeared out of the mist, towering over her. They looked like old men, hunched and wrapped in long cloaks, as they circled around her.

Closer, closer.

A soft sound, not more than a breath.

A dark figure, his face hooded, stepped from the shadows.

A hand reached for her …

Maggie jolted awake.

Good God. She turned her face toward the window, tried to slow her breathing.

She’d dreamed of the stones in the photograph Beatrice had given her. The same stones in the pen and ink drawing framed in her husband’s office. The drawing was titled Bodmin Moor, near Boscastle.

Where she would begin her search for her husband.
